Sporting Edge at Edge Hill University, the first IFI accredited facility in the NSF Programme in the North West, has helped Sam Formby transform his life.
Sam is 21 year old wheelchair user, currently exercising at Sporting Edge, Edge Hill University. Until twenty, Sam didnt exercise at all, he didnt think he’d walk again, drank quite a lot and noticed he was putting on weight.
He decided enough was enough and it was time to turn his life around and make a future for himself. Through exercising everyday, he has now become more independent. Sam goes to the fitness suite four days a week, in addition to having Hydrotherapy. In the last six months, Sam has completed a half marathon and is now hoping to do his driving assessment giving him even more independence to travel to the gym.
It took a lot of courage for Sam to visit Sporting Edge as he was very nervous on his first visit. He first attended with a carer who left after Sam was introduced to Sporting Edge staff, who put Sam at ease and were very helpful.
Sam explained:
"I really enjoy using Sporting Edge, it has helped with my confidence and the staff and facilities make it very easy for me to access and use. My confidence has improved so much that I have now applied for a house of my own."
