Back in June 2009, three Leisure Connection team members from IFI Mark accredited facility, Stoke Mandeville Stadium conquered the highest peaks of Scotland, Wales and England. They can now confirm they raised over 500 pounds for WheelPower’s, WheelAppeal. The Appeal aims to raise 6-million pounds, enough money to provide 2012 sports wheelchairs to disabled children and young adults by the time the Paralympics return ‘home’ in August 2012.
Gavin Ebelling, Harpers Manager at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Lee Fellows, and Gemma Murdoch, Operations Manager at Stoke Mandeville Stadium completed the task in just two days. This involved climbing Ben Nevis (Scotland) on the first day and then Skafell Pike (Lake District) and Snowdon (Wales) on the second.
It took a total of 12 hours climbing time to do all three, Ben Nevis was the highest and took the longest to climb, walking over snow fields as they neared the top. Skafell Pike was probably the most difficult as it was very steep and very rocky. By the time they got to Snowdon we were exhausted and although it was the easiest of the 3, it felt much harder.
The IFI would like to congratulate Gavin, Lee and Gemma on their fantastic achievement . If you would like to show your support and donate, please visit www.justgiving.com/smsteam
Well done!
