Leigh Sports Village to host DSE Mini Games North

The first ever Disability Sport Events (DSE) Mini Games North will be hosted by IFI Mark Accredited Leigh Sports Village.

DSE have run a Mini Games South for many years but the demand for more young disabled children to access sport, meant creating a brand new event in the North. So the Mini Games at Leigh was born. The first event will be at Leigh Sports Village on 21-23 May 2010 and we are looking for sporty children, wanting to just have a go.

In the South one hundred children from all over the country compete in a sport packed event, designed to identify future disabled champions in sport. Paralympians such as Tanni Grey-Thompson once participated in this event, so it has impact on many lives.

The 6-12 year olds are given endless opportunities to try many sports- including boccia, swimming, rugby, track and field events. This weekend of competition is often the first time away for many of the children, so it is about independence as well as participation. Young, gifted and talented stars are encouraged to develop into junior and senior performers in many sports.
