Sport Relief 2010: Rise to the Challenge

The local people of Aylesbury rose to the Sport Relief challenge and made their region proud, by taking part in Sunday’s Sport Relief Mile at Stoke Mandeville Stadium.

More than 150 people turned up at Stoke Mandeville Stadium to run the 1, 3 and 6 mile route to help raise money for Sport Relief.

Ian Seabrook, Business Development Manager at Stoke Mandeville Stadium said: “The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile was a great success and fun day for all! We were delighted with how many people of all ages –from 1 – 75 years turned up from the fun runners to the super sprinters who all tested themselves against the clock. Best of all, the money raised by getting sponsored will be used to transform lives forever.”

Gavin Ebeling, Health and Fitness Manager at Stoke Mandeville Stadium said, “It was absolutely fantastic to see all the participants taking part- from the young two year old walking the full mile to the valiant efforts of the wheelchair participants and their carers completing the challenge. It just shows what can be achieved with a little effort and a lot of determination!”

So far Sport Relief has raised over £3 million, with the figure set to rise daily.
