As demand within the leisure industry for fully accessible leisure facilities expands, one leisure facility within Sefton has gone one step further to provide a fully inclusive leisure and sports facility that goes the extra mile to cater for work, rest and play.
The new Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre is the second facility within the Leisure Services portfolio to have been awarded Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) status for its inclusive facilities on offer which have been designed specifically for disabled visitors and users.
IFI recognised facilities are identified as leaders in terms of quality and inclusion within the leisure industry and represent a close relationship between the IFI and the leisure industry to highlight those locations and products which enable facilities to be fully accessible for all members of the disabled community.
Featuring a fully accessible fitness suite, water sports facilities, conference and teaching facilities as well as residential accommodation, which has been designed for disabled users in mind, the new Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre has been tailored to the needs of disabled users throughout.
Paralympic star Jamie Burdekin, said
"As a member and user of Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre and Fitness Suite user I am delighted that this fully accessible centre has received a national award for its facilities"
Within the UK there are now an extensive range of IFI accredited facilities. The IFI’s strategy ‘Inclusion Works Out’ has identified a target to accredit 1000 fitness facilities throughout the UK by 2012. Leisure providers are already acknowledging IFI Recognised Products as a fantastic and welcomed addition to the support available in creating accessible and inclusive environments.
