What if some customers don’t declare that they have a disability?

An individuals perception of what constitutes a disability or impairment and the different definitions used means that many disabled people will not consider themselves to be disabled and will therefore answer “no” to the disability question used on the PAR-Q form. In addition, a number of disabled people may choose not to disclose their impairment for fear of being turned away from using the fitness suite or being referred to their GP. This generally leads to the number of disabled people reported as using IFI facilities being lower than the actual figure. However, this should be consistent across all facilities and the IFI is well aware of this problem.People are perfectly entitled not to declare whether they have a disability or not. The IFI monitoring relies on self-declaration rather than assumptions and guess workguesswork, so if an individual declares not to have a disability then that is the information the IFI require.
