Further international impact is also ongoing with a unique collaborative partnership being developed with the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Recreational Technologies (RERC RecTech) at University of Illinois-Chicago, USA (www.rectech.org). This project, funded at a Federal level through the U.S. Department of Education - National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), aims to expand new knowledge and research on recreation technology for disabled people and to disseminate technology developments. As such the IFI is working with this group to continue to develop globally relevant fitness equipment design standards.

The IFI is also involved with the recently established Inclusive Fitness Coalition (IFC), an American organisation formed to address policy, environmental, and societal issues associated with the lack of inclusion and access to physical activity among disabled people in the USA (www.incfit.org).
