The IFI has been successful in securing £1.95million funding from the National Sports Foundation to work with a further 200 fitness facilities throughout England. The Inclusive Fitness Initiative currently has opportunities available for leisure facilities to become accredited through the IFI NSF Programme.
For the first time, this funding is also available to the private sector, such that disabled people will now have the same choice as non-disabled people when choosing a fitness suite.
The funding is available to any fitness facility in England that will have invested, or will invest at least £8500 from a commercial source towards either physical access or IFI accredited fitness equipment between July 2006 and December 2008. It is therefore highly applicable to new build facilities and refurbishments. In return, the IFI match funds the investment with free training, marketing and facility accessibility support.
Any fitness facility in England that can demonstrate a minimum of £8500 commercial investment between July 2006 and December 2008 towards either IFI accredited fitness equipment and / or physical access enhancements to the facility may be eligible to join the IFI Programme.
