Sporting Edge, located at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk, will be opening their doors to the public for an open day on Saturday 26th April to celebrate the National Inclusive Fitness Week, which aims to raise awareness of the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) and increase participation at accredited inclusive fitness facilities.
The day will also mark the official launch of Sporting Edge as an IFI accredited site, which is recognition for the work that has been undertaken to make the Edge Hill sports centre become more accessible for people with disabilities.
The Open Day at Sporting Edge will run from 11.00am - 4.00pm and offer free fitness suite taster sessions for people with disabilities and carers providing supervision. Also available on the day are activities organised by the West Lancs Disability Forum as part of their Disability Sports Day, including gymnastics, hockey, football, cricket and others. All sessions are free, allowing the opportunity for people with disabilities to enjoy getting active.
Paul Greenwood, Centre Manager for Sporting Edge stated,
‘The IFI accreditation here at Sporting Edge is very exciting news. It means that disabled people will be able to really benefit from an inclusive fitness experience, as we aim to increase the number of local people taking part in physical activity. The centre is looking forward to the open day to promote our service and encourage people to come and have a look at what we can offer. There is also the opportunity to try out other sports and activities on the day, that many disabled people will not have had the opportunity to try before. We look forward to seeing you on the day!’
