In March 2008, Carla Raven joined the IFI as the Regional Inclusive Activator for the East Region.
Carla will work alongside other Regional Inclusive Activators and IFI Accredited Facilities, promoting the Initiative in the East of England and encouraging disabled people into physical activity. The Inclusive Activator Programme is a coordinated programme of outreach designed to engage disabled people in physical activity, using the accredited network of Inclusive Fitness Facilities as a basis for participation.
Carla is based at Sport England in Bedford and explains about her role:
“I have always been passionate about sport and exercise. The role of Inclusive Activator allows me to promote inclusive opportunities within sport and exercise. The ability to enjoy physical activity should be equally available to all. Working at a regional level whilst also continuing to develop sites within the community is invaluable. Regionally, there is the opportunity to make an impact at such an influential level whereas working to develop facilities in the community helps to keep sight of those who will be delivering and using the service. Working within the region to reduce the barriers that people can face, when attempting to become physically active, is extremely rewarding.
Meeting so many like minded people within the Inclusive Fitness Initiative has been very motivational and has filled me with confidence that we are all working together to seek positive results. With the help of the Inclusive Fitness Initiative, awareness of disability sport has grown and will continue to grow creating inclusive opportunities for all. I am extremely proud to be part of such a great and worthwhile initiative”.
