Concord Sports Centre in Shiregreen Lane hosted a launch event to celebrate being granted Inclusive Fitness Initiative accreditation, which recognises venues that provide facilities for disabled people and those with special requirements.
Visitors took part in seated aerobics, beauty treatments and sports therapy massages, and got the chance to try out new gym equipment while enjoying a guided tour.
The sports centre, which is managed by Sheffield International Venues, has invested more than £35,000 in equipment from the IFI range, which includes treadmills, a chest press, low rower and shoulder press.
The equipment has also been fitted with yellow markings to distinguish its areas and movement, while other modifications around the building have included fitting low reception bays, induction loop hearing systems, and a pool hoist.
Harry Grantham, who is partially sighted, has been visiting the centre for the past two years and believes the new equipment will be a great boost for the gym.
The 61-year-old from Grimesthorpe said: "The new equipment is a brilliant idea and it's great to know the centre is taking into account the needs of disabled people."
