Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) has been shortlisted for the Lloyds Banking Group Sports Award at this years prestigious Royal Association for Disability Rights (RADAR) People of the year awards, to be held at Battersea Evolution in
RADAR has included the sports category for the first time, with set criteria around achievement, inspiration, enabling and engaging disabled people in sport. IFI has beaten off strong competition to be one of the five shortlisted candidates. The other nominations are Disability Snowsport
The IFI programme fully encapsulates the award, by providing an accessible environment for disabled people and non-disabled people to be physically active at the gym, enabling disabled people to work out at the facility as an everyday activity or to work towards a competition, and by changing perceptions around disabled people being active. IFI is ground breaking work and has a major impact on both the external and internal infrastructure so that disabled people can easily engage in sport.
Chris Ratcliffe, EFDS Director of Innovation and Development said:
“We are delighted that IFI has been shortlisted for this award and that sport as a whole has been recognised as equally important as the other award categories. IFI creates an inclusive and accessible environment for all to enjoy sport opportunities and embeds a sporting legacy for the Olympic and Paralympic 2012 Games and beyond”.
