Leisure Connection Urges Aylesbury to Get Active

Tuesday 10th October 2006

Regular exercise and physical activity are crucial, as part of a healthy, happy lifestyle but some of us need motivation to get started.

Leisure Connection, which manages Stoke Mandeville Stadium has launched the first in a series of nationwide roadshows and open days called ‘Get Active Aylesbury’, which took place on Sunday 1st October. These events aim to reach out beyond the actual leisure centre and encourage and enthuse local people of all ages to ditch the remote control, get off the sofa and Get Active!

Leisure Connection opened its doors to demonstrate the wide range of fun activities that the entire family can enjoy.  The aim of the roadshows and events is to highlight to the local community all of the activities that are available to people, right on their doorstep.

Leisure Connection wants the local community to recognise that sport and physical activity is fun.  Exercise and physical activity is proven to have a positive impact on all of our lives, whether it is fending off those winter blues, keeping you slim and trim, reducing the onset of type 2 diabetes or even reducing the affects of impotence!  Leisure Connection guarantees that if you find an activity you enjoy or a range of activities that increases your level of weekly exercise you will begin to feel and see the benefits!

Lynne Britton, Leisure Connection’s Business Manager said:  “Leisure Connection is truly committed to promoting the health, fitness and well-being of our communities and we are working towards becoming an oasis for promoting regular physical activity to the entire community rather than becoming an island for the super fit and the super healthy.  Leisure Connection aims to enhance the lives of everyone in the community from the young, old, families, single people, disabled people – everyone!!  We have a mission: a healthier Aylesbury, a healthier UK and a healthier world!”
To highlight what is on offer at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Leisure Connection offered the following activities at a reduced rate!!!

Over £100 was raised for WheelPower, British Wheelchair Sport, at Stoke Mandeville Stadium at the Get Active Day held on Sunday 1st October 2006.

Eighty people attended the launch of the new BTS Body Combat routine each donating £1. Other events included half price badminton and swimming, with half the proceeds going to WheelPower, and have a go bowls, run by Stoke Mandeville Indoor Bowls Club.

People do not have to be a member to visit a Leisure Connection centre, they can simply pay for their chosen activity each time they come along. However, for those who do want to take control of their health and fitness and receive all the great benefits of regular physical activity can join one of the range of different membership packages available.  Leisure Connection has developed a range of membership packages, one of which is sure to suit you and your personal exercise goals. Most importantly the packages are affordable and won’t break the bank, we want to encourage more and more people to benefit from exercise, whether it be attending the gym, an exercise class, a leisurely swim, or one of the many other activities on offer – it all makes a difference.
