The English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) are campaigning to get 10,000 signatures by the end of March 2007 to support their “Count Me In” award. To date they have achieved 5800. The Award was launched by Sports Minister Richard Caborn in summer 2006, and aims to support disabled children, young people and adults to have equal access to sport and physical activity. In conjunction with this EFDS have developed a comprehensive set of online tools for organisations who are working to improve access to physical activity.
So far they have got signatures from:
- Sports Minister Richard Caborn
- Minister for Disabled People Anne McGuire
- Director Office of Disability Issues Bruce Calderwood.
- The Secretary of State for Education Alan Johnson
- Chair of the Disability Rights Commission Bert Massie
- Chair UK Sport Sue Campbell
- Chief Executive Youth Sport Trust Steve Grainger
And Big sporting names:
- Sir Trevor Brooking
- Darren Campbell
- Linford Christie
- Duncan Goodhew
- Ade Adepitan
- Dame Kelly Holmes
- Danny Mills
- Ian Rose
- Uriah Rennie
- Tessa Sanderson
- Iwan Thomas
- Marc Woods
Various national businesses have also signed up including Nationwide, npower and the BBC.
