A marathon and a half!!!

Tuesday 22nd May 2007

The success of the Inclusive Fitness Initiative has once again been highlighted through the personal achievements of local Sheffield resident, Eric Cooper.

Eric who is 82 years of age and registered blind, first discovered the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) back in 2006 when IFI representatives presented at a self help group that he attends on a weekly basis. Eric took an immediate interest in the initiative recognising the benefits of being able to visit an accessible facility with appropriately trained staff and inclusive fitness equipment. He was introduced to the IFI facilities at Club Hallam where he trains for one hour, three times a week using both resistance and cardiovascular equipment.

As well as having a great impact on his health and fitness, Eric describes his participation at his local facility as "having a huge impact on his social life, meeting different people who have different stories". Eric has accomplished some huge personal achievements this year alone which include walking the equivalent of a full and half marathon using one of the facilities accredited treadmills. In addition to this, Eric is currently training for a 3km fun walk at Don Valley Stadium which he will complete in May.

When asked about his achievements it is clear that Eric is very passionate about his active lifestyle but acknowledges that "he could never have done it without the Inclusive Fitness Initiative". Eric has assured us that he will continue to train and hopes to be involved in more events later in the year, we would like to congratulate him on his achievements to date and wish him every success for the coming event.
