On 7th January, The Sporting Edge at Edge Hill University, Ormskirk received their Level 1 training course as part of their commitment to the IFI NSF Programme.

The IFI Level One Training Course aims to:

The course was attended by 21 participants and Helen Atkinson, course tutor, commented:

‘It was a great turn out, and the Edge Hill University staff seemed to be very keen in getting involved and taking on the IFI ethos. Many staff came to gain greater awareness, understanding and knowledge of issues relating to disabled people and physical activity. By the end of the day, all staff had met their expectations achieving what they had hoped. On a personal level, it was the first course I had delivered and it was great to have such an enthusiastic group.’

After the course, Leisure staff commented they had thoroughly enjoyed looking at different approaches to potential barriers, engaging in teamwork whilst interaction allowed for greater understanding and discussion.

After an enjoyable day of learning through interactive tasks, presentations and a quiz, course delegates summarised the training course as ‘Ahead of the game’ - increasing their awareness, knowledge and understanding assisting them to provide an inclusive service at their facility.
