Friday 5th August saw a hive of excitement as the Norman Centre Norwich hosted its first independent disability open day. As an established IFI Site the aim of the day was to raise the profile of the Inclusive Fitness Initiative within the local community.
Fitness advisors and representatives from local organisations were on hand to offer advice and answer questions about the facilities. A range of activities were available including taster sessions in new age curling, boccia, adapted aerobics, wheelchair football, table tennis and polybat. The adult education I.T. suite was also open for people to use the specially adapted computers.
All had a fun and informative day and many who attended will now be passing through the Norman Centre?s doors on a regular basis, to attend the Thursday evening boccia club or play in the polybat and table tennis league.
Membership of the gym has also increased since the open day, Lee Wright, the leisure team leader at the Norman Centre said: ?The day was a great success, and helped reinforce the message that the Norman Centre is committed to breaking down barriers to ensure disabled people in the community are able to participate in enjoyable educational and leisure activities.?
