The value of training in the development of inclusive facilities should never be underestimated. If staff attitude and culture are not inclusive then this will prevent many users from getting much further than the front door of your facility.
The IFI Mark standards require staff to have been received training in meeting the needs of disabled people in a fitness environment appropriate to their role:
Level one training is required for staff at IFI Mark sites involved in supporting the delivery of fitness opportunities to disabled people. This includes all front of house leisure centre staff eg. fitness suite staff, supervisors, facility staff, receptionists, caterers, cleaning staff and management.
Level two and Level three training courses are tailored specifically to meet the needs of fitness instructors ensuring that they have the knowledge required to deliver, safe and effective inclusive workouts. It provides instructors with the training, confidence and expertise in supporting relevant and safe fitness programmes with disabled people.
The Course is delivered by YMCAFit on behalf of the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI). It is a nationally recognised Course and will provide candidates with a nationally recognised VRQ qualification.
These training Courses are available free of charge to all National Sports Foundation (NSF) sites through grant aid from the IFI and is supported by your employer through their partnership with the IFI. Main Scheme sites, Pilot sites and external candidates are welcome to attend the training Courses however there will be a fee of £350 plus VAT per course.
