The IFI has engaged a number of key partners in the delivery of the training element of the programme:

YMCA FIT

YMCAfit is a registered charity and began life as YMCA Training & Development, within the famous Tottenham Court Road Central YMCA Club, in London in 1983.

It was there that a small group of visionary educators became inspired by a new exercise phenomenon sweeping the country, the use of music in exercise classes. Despite the massive growth in Exercise to Music (Aerobics) at that time, there was little or no opportunity for individuals to learn how to instruct classes which were creative, safe and effective. It was in answer to this demand that YMCA Training & Development was born.

In 1984 the first Exercise to Music (Aerobics) course took place and began a journey during which over 67,000 individuals have been trained to become professional fitness instructors. In fact, if you go to almost any gym in the country you'll find YMCA trained and qualified staff.

In 1997 Government legislation brought about widespread changes in funding support for education and YMCA Training and Development separated to become two independent charities: Central YMCA Qualifications (CYQ), a government approved qualifications awarding body, and YMCAfit as you know us now.

Responsible for the co-ordination and delivery of the Disability Equality Training (Level 1) of the Inclusive Fitness Initiative, Inclusive Training has to date implemented over 180 courses.

Since its inception Inclusive Training has expanded its remit and is now responsible for developing and running courses that raise the awareness of the needs of disabled people for partners such as local authorities, governing bodies of sport, schools and colleges.

Inclusive Training also focuses on empowering disabled people by predominantly recruiting and training disabled people as tutors of its courses.

For more information on the range of current and new courses available from Inclusive Training, contact Debbie Snelson, EFDS National Training Co-ordinator on 0161 247 5633, by email inclusivetraining@efds.co.uk or visit the EFDS website www.efds.co.uk.

Wendy Williams Training

The Tutors of Wendy Williams Training have enjoyed delivering Level One Training throughout Yorkshire over the last two years for the Inclusive Fitness Initiative.

The positive response shown by delegates to the style, delivery and content of this training created a perfect opportunity for delegates lively discussion and the straightforward achievement of all the learning outcomes that the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) expected of this course.
Delegate feedback and Action Plans showed the knowledge gained would immediately be taken back to the represented fitness suites and implemented!

In the future a truly inclusive service will be offered to all the many disabled service users of each IFI site and the Tutors of Wendy Williams Training look forward to their involvement with the IFI as this effective service is consolidated throughout the years to come.
