Introduction to the Inclusive Fitness Mark
The Inclusive Fitness Mark (IFI Mark) is the quality mark accreditation scheme for fitness facilities based upon the principles of the the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI).
The IFI Mark benefits both fitness facilities and their customers; by giving advice and support, it helps fitness facilities work towards meeting the needs of disabled people and gives recognition for the work they have completed.
The IFI Mark has huge relevance to both disabled and non-disabled customers in demonstrating that facilities have considered their needs. The IFI Mark offers constructive advice and consultancy across five key areas, fundamental to offering a truly inclusive provision:
- Facility Accessibility
- Fitness Equipment Specification
- Staff Training
- Marketing
- Policies and Procedures
In addition, all facilities undergoing an IFI Mark assessment will also receive a free access audit of the remainder of the public areas of the facility.
The IFI Mark is relevant to any fitness facility in the UK wishing to become more inclusive and accessible, with the standards adapted where necessary for each type of facility. This includes:
- Local authority or trust operated leisure centres
- Private fitness suites / health clubs
- Voluntary fitness facilities
- University fitness centres
- Hotel fitness suites
- School fitness suites
- Any other facility in the UK with a dedicated fitness suite
