There are three levels of IFI Mark accreditation that a facility may aspire to. These are:
- Level One (Provisional) – for those facilities that have begun working towards meeting the needs of disabled people
- Level Two (Registered) – for those facilities that can demonstrate a good commitment to inclusive fitness provision
- Level Three (Excellent) – for those facilities achieving an excellent level of inclusive fitness provision.
When facilities have been awarded a level of accreditation a period of six months will be given to work towards the next level if desired. Accreditation lasts for a period of two years.
Working towards any of the IFI Mark levels will help your fitness facility to improve access and quality, working towards meeting your responsibilities under the DDA. Meeting the standards at any level will not, however, guarantee your facility satisfies the requirements of the DDA, nor will it meet every particular need in every situation. Becoming an IFI Mark facility is a good way of showing your customers that you can provide an accessible fitness facility and that you have considered the needs of your disabled users.
The IFI Mark standards have been developed specifically for use within a standard fitness facility that is open to the public for adult users. However, the standards also have relevance to other population groups e.g. children
