The IFI Welcomes...
Thursday 9th October 2008
Liz Hardman has joined the IFI team as the Regional Inclusive Activator for Yorkshire.
Liz will work alongside the other Regional Activators and accredited IFI facilities to encourage disabled people into physical activity and to raise both awareness and profile of the initiative. The Inclusive Activator Programme has been in place for over a year and is a coordinated programme of outreach designed to engage disabled people over the age of 16 in physical activity, using the accredited network of Inclusive Fitness Facilities as a basis for participation.
Liz has 10 years experience of working and volunteering within disability organisations. For 7 years of this she worked for the national charity, Sense, primarily supporting deaf adults at home in the local community. It was this practice that gave Liz first hand experience of supporting people with learning difficulties and sensory impairments to access leisure facilities and local disability groups. As a volunteer with Mencap Gateway Club for many years, Liz gained knowledge and skills to attempt to overcome barriers within communities with regards to disabled people.
Liz is based in the IFI Head Office in Sheffield,
“I am delighted to have joined the Inclusive Fitness Initiative as the Activator for Yorkshire. I am looking forward to the opportunity to increase participation of disabled people that would benefit from accessing an inclusive fitness environment. Working within the region to reduce the barriers that people may face will be challenging but I am motivated and hope to build on my past experiences.”
